Today, we embarked on a four-day fishing adventure from Marina Pez Vela in Quepos, Costa Rica, targeting the abundant marine life in the waters of Drake Bay. As the owner and operator of Big Eye 2 Sportfishing, I, Franklin Araya, was fortunate to guide my crew and guests on what turned out to be a successful and exciting expedition.

Our journey started early in the morning, with the sun just beginning to paint the sky with hues of orange and pink. The weather was ideal for fishing, with calm seas and clear skies setting the stage for a productive day on the water.

We started by targeting Roosterfish, locally known as “gallos”. Using live bait, we managed to hook and land six impressive specimens. These strong fighters put up quite a show, leaping and diving, testing the skills of our anglers. Each successful catch was followed by a quick photo session before the fish were released back into the ocean, continuing our commitment to sustainable fishing practices.

Our next target species were the snappers, or “pargos”. These bottom dwellers are known for their strength and delicious meat. Using a combination of live and cut bait, we managed to hook several snappers. The largest one was a whopping 20 pounds, a testament to the fertile waters of Drake Bay.

As the day progressed, we switched our focus to tuna. With their streamlined bodies and powerful tails, these fish are built for speed and endurance. Using a mix of trolling and chunking techniques, we managed to land several Yellowfin Tuna. The excitement on the boat was palpable as each angler took turns fighting these magnificent fish.

In addition to the Roosterfish, Snapper, and Tuna, we also encountered a variety of other species including Mahi Mahi, Jack Crevalle, and Sailfish. This diversity of species is a testament to the rich biodiversity found in the waters around Quepos, Costa Rica.

As we wrap up our four-day fishing trip, we look back with satisfaction at the memories we’ve created and the experiences we’ve shared. From the thrill of the fight to the joy of landing a trophy fish, these are the moments that make sportfishing such a rewarding pursuit.

We at Big Eye 2 Sportfishing, under the guidance of Franklin Araya, are committed to providing our guests with unforgettable fishing experiences. Whether you’re an experienced angler or a novice, we welcome you to join us on our next adventure in the abundant waters of Quepos, Costa Rica.
