Today was another successful day at Big Eye 2 Sportfishing with Captain Franklin Araya. We were out in the beautiful waters of Quepos, Costa Rica, one of the world’s top destinations for sport fishing.
We started our day early, leaving the marina at dawn, the sky painted with hues of orange and pink. Our target for the day was the elusive sailfish, a popular species known for its acrobatic leaps and long runs when hooked.
I had the pleasure of fishing with my good friend, Craig Purse. Craig is an avid angler with a passion for fly fishing. He was eager to test his skills against the mighty sailfish. The conditions were perfect for fly fishing – calm seas and clear skies.
We set out to the offshore fishing grounds, approximately 20 miles off the coast of Quepos. The first few hours were quiet, but we remained patient – a virtue every angler must possess.
Around mid-morning, we spotted our first sailfish. Craig was ready with his fly rod. After a few attempts, he managed to present the fly perfectly. The sailfish took the bait, and the fight was on.
Craig did an excellent job, skillfully managing the sailfish’s powerful runs and high jumps. After a thrilling battle, we successfully released the sailfish, ensuring it swam off healthy and strong.
Throughout the day, we hooked and released a total of six sailfish. It was a memorable day for Craig and for Big Eye 2 Sportfishing. We take pride in our catch and release practices, contributing to the conservation of these magnificent creatures.
